Delhi High Court bar association notice at railway counter peeves many
Litigants visiting the Delhi High Court are a peeved lot. The reason? A notice recently put up by the High Court Bar Association at the railway reservation counter on the court premises says lawyers will be given priority.
As per the new arrangement, a lawyer just walks up to the window and gets a railway ticket even as others wait in a long queue in the sweltering heat.
A man waiting at the window pointed out that the notice was against railway rules.
There is no provision in the Railways for according priority to a specific category of people at a reservation counter opened in any building or complex, though there can be dedicated windows for senior citizens, the differently-abled, etc. Moreover, a private body — in this case, the High Court Bar Association — cannot put up a notice at the counter announcing priority to its own members, said another.

Changes in the pulse duration of traffic signals on the arterial Feroze Shah Road in Lutyens’ Zone late in the evening are making life difficult for commuters.
Those driving regularly on this road say the difference in pulse duration of the two intersections on the same stretch leads to traffic jams and puts motorists at risk as many tend to jump the signal.
“After 10 p.m., the pluse cycle on the Feroze Shah intersection is reduced to 10 seconds, while the one K.G. Marg intersection lasts one minute. Due to this, motorists rush past one signal, but get stuck at the other. They often lose patience and jump the signal, which can be dangerous,” said Suresh Sharma, who works in Central Delhi.

Many Civil Services aspirants have been out on the streets of the Capital over the past few days demanding the removal of the Civil Services Aptitude Test. However others stayed home to prepare for the exams, scheduled next month, because the existing pattern suits them, alleged many protesters.
At one such protest at Mukherjee Nagar, The Hindu came across many who said voices in favour of CSAT were drowning in the din.
“I have been preparing for the Civil Services for the past few years according to the old pattern. Now with the changed format, even English medium aspirants will need to adapt. More so, the decision on CSAT was taken after much deliberations at the highest level. Any change must not be introduced in a haste,” said Odisha resident Swayambhu.
